1. Monitoring Corn (Zea mays) Yield using Sentinel-2 and Machine Learning for Precision Agriculture Applications

Currently, there is a growing demand to apply precision agriculture (PA) management practices at agricultural fields expecting more efficient and more profitable management. One of PA principal components for site-specific management is crop yield monitoring which varies temporally between seasons and spatially within-field. In this study, we investigated the possibility of monitoring within-field variability of corn grain yield in a 22ha field located in Ferarra, North Italy. Archived yield data... A. Kayad, M. 2. Sequencing integrated soil fertility management options for improved crop productivity and nutrient use efficiency on sandy soils

Maintaining high use efficiency of nutrient resources available to farmers is key to sustainable intensification of African smallholder farms. Multi-locational on-farm experiments were conducted on degraded sandy soils (< 10 % clay) in eastern Zimbabwe over 4 cropping seasons to evaluate different manure-, fertilizer- and legume-based integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) options with respect to maize productivity and, fertilizer nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) use efficiency.... 3. Precision fertilizer management for soil fertility improvement in Sub-Sahara Africa

Attainment of food security remains one of the biggest challenges facing sub Saharan Africa. The continent continues to experience low production as a result of the low and declining soil fertility and land degradation, which have been compounded by unfavorable climatic conditions. Since the 1960s, there have been effort to transform the agricultural sector through promotion of diverse approaches of soil nutrient management. Research has demonstrated the potential and importance of fertilizers... A. Bationo

4. An Open Source Multispectral Camera for Crop Monitoring

Precision agriculture is one of the most important economic issues of the 21st century because it will make it possible to respond to the new challenges of agriculture, which are population growth, global warming, global epidemics, and inflation, to name a few. Remote sensing makes it possible to monitor the plantation from a distance and makes it possible to know the level of growth and the state of health and hydration of the plants. This paper outlines an affordable and open-source multispectral... H. Nardjes, M. Yagoubi

5. A Time Series Investigation to Assess Climate Change and Anthropogenic Impacts on the Degradation of Nile Delta, Egypt.

Land degradation risk, status and rate in Nile Delta, Egypt were assessed for a time series using remote sensing data over the past five decades using TM, ETM and OLI. Quantitative deterioration of the area was produced based on the comparative study approach in the integrated weighted sum, weighted overlay and fuzzy model. Where degradation factors were compiled in a raster and each data set scored on a 1 to 5 (very low, low, moderate, high and very high scale). The data sets were then weighted... B. Abdellatif, M.R. 6. Leaf-proximal Hyperspectral Data and Multivariate Modelling Approaches to Estimate Phosphorus and Potassium Content of Wheat Leaves

The assessment of plant nutrient status to provide sufficient fertilization for rapid and continuous uptake by plants has been based on visual diagnosis in the field, which is quick but demands a lot of experience and has low operability. Visible near-infrared spectroscopy (VNIS) has shown to be a quick, non-destructive, accurate, and cost-effective analytical method in precision agriculture. In this study, we assessed the potential of this technology to predict phosphorus and potassium content... Y. El-mejjaouy, B. Dumont, P. Vermeulen, A. Oukarroum, B. Mercatoris

7. Improving Phosphorus Use Efficiency by Chickpea Crop Using Electromagnetic Induction, Soil Properties, and Crop Yield Data Under Semi-arid Conditions

Under arid and semi-arid conditions, the agricultural sector faces many challenges related to the use of water and mineral resources for crop production and food security for an exponentially growing population. The impact of climate changes on water resources availability and soil quality is more and more emphasized under the Mediterranean basin, mostly characterized by drought and extreme weather conditions. The present study aims to investigate how electromagnetic induction technique and soil... M. Chtouki, A. Oukarroum, F. Nguyen

M. Lare, J. Sogbedji, K. Lotsi, K. Amouzou, A. 9. Fine-tuning Specialty Fertilization Strategies to Local Wheat Production Through On-farm Experimentation in Nigeria

Wheat specialty fertilizer validation trial was conducted in 8 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kano State, Nigeria on farmers field. The specialty fertilizer validation project is implemented to improve the productivity and profitability of small-scale wheat smallholder farmers. Four treatments - absolute control (AC), local control (LC), OCP1 and OCP2 were replicated four times in a RCBD on a plot of 25m2. The AC was based on the indigenous nutrient supply from the soil (no application... V. Aduramigba-modupe, J.M. Jibrin, . Olabanji, B. Lawan, D. Madukwe
