1. Assessment of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Content (NP) in Citrus Trees Using UAV-imagery Derived Vegetation Indices and Machine Learning Algorithms

Monitoring nutrient status of citrus trees is fundamental to ensure optimum fruit yield and quality. However, this task is traditionally time-consuming and laborious. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), with their high temporal and spatial resolution imagery, are demonstrating a great potential to substitute traditional methods in assessing nutrient status of several crops, including citrus. In this study, we evaluated the performance of vegetation indices (VIs) derived from UAV multispectral images... Z. Abail, H. Benaouda, M. Chikhaoui, H. Benyahia, O. Iben halima, M. Baraka, A. 2. Driving Up Large Scale Irrigated Wheat Yields Through Variable Rate P & K Fertilizer Recommendations in Zambia

Soil types and how these change across a field/farm are the main drivers of yield. Through the surveying of the fields and their subsequent subdivision (virtual) into homogenous zones, Cropnuts has been able to carry out yearly soil sampling within each zone and generate soil correction plans to target the needs of each individual zone rather than applying blanket recommendations. This has led to improved fertilizer efficiency and has had a massive impact on yields of our clients. ... J. Parigiani

3. Development and Validation of an Algorithm for Optical Sensor-based Nitrogen Fertilization for Durum Wheat in Central Ethiopia I. Algorithm Development

Monitoring in-season nitrogen (N) management using proximal optical sensors is often considered highly cost-effective and efficient. Developing a successful sensor-based algorithm to optimize in-season N application for durum wheat could enhance productivity and nitrogen use efficiency. This study aimed to develop and validate a sensor-based algorithm for N fertilization of durum wheat in central Ethiopia. The developed algorithm is based on the prediction of total N uptake from normalized difference... S. Endris, T. Mesfin, O. Atnafu, S. Tamiru
